Class 6 H have been looking at journalistic writing in Literacy.

Following our school Remembrance Service in November 2005, they reported on the event as journalists.

Children go to church for Remembrance Day

On the tenth of November, Nettleham Junior School pupils went to church to remember brave soldiers who have fought in wars.

Poems were read out, by some of the pupils, about things that have happened during the war. Some of the poems were written about peoples feelings.

There was a chain of prayers, written on paper poppies. Some were read out. These prayers contained thoughts and hopes, written by the pupils.

Children sang a Jewish song named Shalom. It was about world peace. They repeated it four times before finishing.

Mrs Zotov led a prayer. Everybody prayed for the people who died, were injured, hurt or affected.

The remembrance service was a chance for children to remember and pray for people affected by wars. It was sad to remember, but it was a good service. Children walked out of church with thoughts still in their minds.

SCHOOL SERVICE

Nettleham Junior School went to Church on the 10th November to remember people who fought in the wars.

On Thursday 10th November the children of Nettleham Junior School went to Nettleham Church to celebrate Poppy Day. Some people disagree about them going to Church and had this to say,

"The teachers are wasting my son’s time, he could be learning."

The good thing is most people don’t mind. The person who conducted the service was Mrs Zotov. The children and adults sang a Jewish song called Shalom. The Headteacher, Mr Gibbons, had this to say,

"I think the children sat very well and sang beautifully."

All the children seemed to respect the people who fought in the war. At the end some boys read a few thoughts and prayers from a poppy chain which some children wrote. Hopefully the respect stays that way.
