Spring News 2016

What fantastic weather to begin May! We are making the most of our fantastic outdoor spaces for learning and enjoyment. It is a lovely time to be in school with everyone full of renewed energy and creativityh.

I have been really impressed with our Year 6s as they approach their SATs with a very positive attitude that will serve them well in the coming years. We look forward to a really busy final term with lots of great activities – from Bikewise to numerous Trips to Sports Day to Summer Fayres to Kingswood.

Congratulations Mrs Moreton!

Mrs Moreton, our inspirational Year 5 teacher and Associate Head has been offered the post of Headteacher of Middle Rasen Primary School. We are delighted for her and know that Middle Rasen have appointed a first rate school leader. Mrs Moreton will take up this role in September 2016.

Just another month or so in school has seen:

  • Our Y 5/6 Maths team winning the primary school maths challenge hosted by William Farr
  • A very eggcellent decorated Egg competition
  • Four parent information events
  • A successful PTA talent show
  • A fantastic effort for Sport Relief Raising £1115.84 at the last count
  • Lots of amazing trips – from Durham to the Collection
  • Year 4 beginning their swimming lessons
  • A very successful series of sports events including top two finishes in Lincoln Cross Country League,
  • An uplifting Easter Service in church
  • The culmination of a really fascinating project with Siren FM/ Lincoln University
  • Yet more clubs/ community involvement – e.g. bell-ringing, bowls and mad science
  • And more besides!

PTA Events Over the next two weeks

Disco – 13th May, Junior Entrepreneur Night 20th May

We have two very exciting events coming up!

Firstly the PTA have decided to add an additional disco to the calendar…particularly in the light of our Y6 children’s amazing efforts next week.

This will take place on Friday 13th May – in school – 6.30pm – 8pm - £2.50 tickets to include hot dogs.

To make space for this disco the planned Junior Entrepreneur Night will take place on Friday 20th May from 6pm. The idea of this is that children bring along a business idea, pay £5 for a ‘pitch’ and then sell their goods/ ideas and keep any profit that they may make…think the Apprentice meets Dragons Den for kids in an outdoor market!

More information on both events to come next week.

Student Teacher Placements

We are very pleased to welcome back Mr Aisthorpe and Miss Measom to school. They spent Autumn Term with us as part of their training with Bishop Grosseteste University and last term out on their alternative placements. This summer sees Miss Measom undertaking her full final placement with 3T and Mr Aisthorpe with 5FM. Both are very strong teachers already and the children are benefitting greatly from their additional input.

Summer uniform

I would like to remind you of the following guidelines for uniform with key ‘summer’ elements in bold:

Red sweatshirt with embroidered school crest

•             White polo shirt with school crest

•             (These can be worn under sweatshirts in winter but provide a cool, practical and smart option without a sweatshirt on warm summer days.)

•             White shirts or blouses are an alternative to a polo shirt.

•             Grey trousers or skirt. (Girls are welcome to wear tailored grey trousers) It is acceptable for girls and boys to wear tailored, knee-length shorts as an alternative.

•             Black shoes. (Girls should not wear shoes with high heels as these are dangerous in the playground). Please be aware that we do not allow open toed sandals in school and also that children will need a change of shoes in the summer months if they want to play on the field.

•             Dresses in red/white or green/white are acceptable alternative wear for girls in Summer.

•             Jewellery should not be worn to school.  The only exceptions would be a plain wristwatch and small stud earrings if strictly necessary – these should be removed or taped for PE.
