Autumn News - so much happening!

Autumn News

We come to the end of our first month back and we are quite overwhelmed by the positive approach that surrounds us from all members of our school community. Our new pupils appear very settled and our older pupils are really stepping up to the responsibility and challenge that their new classes offer.

Fun Sports, Harvest Festival and our year group parent information evenings have all been really enjoyable and it was a pleasure to see so many of you at each event. Also, thank you so much for your harvest contributions – the church was overflowing with produce and the quality of decorated boxes was excellent!

EXCITING EVENTS – from Archaeology to Fibonacci to Shakespeare to iPads to iSing Pop

As ever we are keen to explore new and exciting projects to extend and enrich the learning of all children.

Our Archaeology group has now spent two weeks on their dig at the Bishops’ Palace site in Nettleham. This really is a unique opportunity and the children are undertaking some excellent work. Please take a little time to visit the site and have a look.

On Thursday of this week and last the children spent two full mornings working with different groups and staff on a range of maths activities – exploring creative and open ended mathematics. This has proved to be highly enjoyable, provided new challenges and increased motivation in this area. We plan to extend this and involve you as parents as the year progresses.

Our ‘Shakespeare Troupe’ are working hard on their version of the Tempest at the moment. If you would like to see them perform at Lincoln Drill Hall on 13th October please buy your tickets as soon as you can as it looks like being a sellout.

Classes 4BH and 5FM are about to embark on a really exciting project with Soundlincs music development agency, Marton Primary and Sturton by Stow Primary exploring the power of technology and music. Keep your ears open for amazing new sounds.

The whole school will be taking part, once again in the iSing Pop project – a wonderful gospel-based vocal opportunity. This will culminate in moving and uplifting perfomances on 15th October – more soon on this.

DANGER…PTA DISCO AND OTHER EVENTS MAY NOT HAPPEN!! WHAT CAN YOU DO?

A reminder on behalf of the PTA that our first school disco is booked for Friday 7th November. However a number of the committee have had to stand down this year and the turn out at the most recent PTA meeting was very low indeed. We are very concerned that the PTA will not have enough committed members to operate as effectively as they have previously done.

Can we, therefore, put out a special plea for parents to attend the next PTA meeting?

It takes place on Tuesday 14th October at 7.30pm in the Black Horse Nettleham – everyone is welcome and this could be the time to take our PTA in new and exciting directions!!

COMMUNICATION WITH SCHOOL BY TEXT AND EMAIL

It is great that we can communicate with you quickly via both text and email. We hope that you find the information that you receive helpful. Up to date email and phone numbers are essential for this system to be as effective as it can be.

In terms of replying to the messages you can reply, normally, to text messages but not to email messages. Emails should be addressed enquiries@nettleham-junior.lincs.sch.uk

Please note that we also place all letters on our school website under the Parents tab in our letter archive.

PARKING ISSUES

We would like to say thank you to the vast majority of parents who park sensibly every day.

However, though it may be difficult to believe, we do have some cars dropping children off on the zig zag lines outside school. Very simply – please do not do this.

The Parish Council has asked me to inform you that those collecting children from school should NOT park in the Old School Car Park. I am sure that all members of our school community will respect this.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at school events over the next few weeks, it is always a privilege to share your children’s successes with you.
