Changing text on an existing page.
Open MS Frontpage then open the school site master, you can work on the site live but I recommend that we keep a copy on one of the school machines. It can be difficult to open a site, you need to be sure that you are trying to open the site, not a file in the site. Go to the folder holding the site, probably 'My Websites', highlight the 'School site' folder ( the folder is a folder icon with a globe on it) then click 'Open'. (if it will not highlight, click on the school site folder it will open to show the site files, do not try to open a file, using the icons at the top of the 'Open' dialogue box either go back or up one level and then if you hover over 'School site' it will highlight, then click 'Open'.
The screen should look like this.

Screen-print 1
There are a number of different ways to display a site but initially at least this is the easiest to understand.
On the left-hand side of the screen is the Folders List for the site and on the right at the moment is the same display, if you double click on the School Council folder in the Folders List it will open and if you then double click on the Minutes page, that page will open in the right hand side of the screen. (Click here for more information about Folders in FP.)

The page now open in the RH side of the screen can be edited in a similar way to working in Word but it is less flexible, it is easier to prepare the new page in Word and then insert it and tidy it up.
So having prepared the new information in Word, the next step is to delete the information on the page, do not delete the page as you would have to create the links again ( Click here for more information on links.)
Having deleted the old information, position the cursor to where you require the new information to appear, go to Insert-Files a box opens check the Files of type at the bottom of the box, it will default to HTML, change it to All files. Find the file double click and it will appear on the page. Check and adjust the formatting, when happy save the page, if you forget nothing will change. To check how it looks in Internet Explorer go to File-Preview in Browser then select Explorer 6 800x600 and the page should display in the browser window and all the links should work. Having checked your work note any problems and close the browser window. It is useful to check how your work looks in the browser from time to time, just press F12 on future occasions.
Having updated the information on the site
you need to add the
image to
the Home (Index) page so that visitors to the site are are made aware of changes
to the site, you also need to change the date on the same page. Click on
Index.htm in the LH Folders column, the index page will open.

Screen Print 6
You will see that the various headings (Top Level Menus) are in a table, to add the update image click in the cell next to the heading you have just changed. Go to 'Insert' on the tool bar then 'Picture-From file' and go to the Image folder on the school site, the last file is 'Update 002', select that and it will insert. Note that at this stage it is not 'animated', if you save the page and press F12 it will work. If you have changed a page that is reached through a second level menu, such as 'About the School' or 'Newletters' you will need to go to that page and add the updated image in the same way. You may wish to remove any existing 'Updated' or 'New' markers, just click on them and use delete, do not forget to save the page. Then change the 'Last updated' date on the index page.
When you have made all the changes and checked that they work you need to upload the changes to the web site, see here.
