Our Shorts!
Our Shorts Video Project 2006
The school was invited to take part in the EMBC ‘Our Shorts’ video project. This project was open to schools that are members of the East Midland Broadband Consortium with participants welcome from foundation stage through to KS4. The chosen topic was "citizenship" with participants being encouraged to investigate topics from the national curriculum. The focus of the project was closely linked to the KS2 Programme of study for PSHE & citizenship 1b Knowledge, skills and understanding Developing confidence and responsibility and making the most of their abilities 1b) pupils should be taught to recognise their worth as individuals by identifying positive things about themselves and their achievements, seeing their mistakes, making amends and setting personal goals.
The children in Year 4 were asked to produce a video to show what it is like to be a child in 2006. The children worked in small groups to complete all the stages of making their video. The topic for the video was explained to the children who then brainstormed their ideas and planned their video using a story board. They were encouraged to use their imagination and be as creative as possible. The class teacher demonstrated the different stages of making the video. After this initial input the children were then responsible for filming and editing their own video.
The children gained an enormous amount from making their videos including: ICT, Literacy, PSHE, communication and team work skills. The project also allowed the children to explore their own ideas about what it is like to be a child. Through making their videos the children gained in confidence and independence. Most of all, everyone who took part thoroughly enjoyed themselves, children and adults alike.
