Spring News 2014

Spring is bursting out all around us and it is just wonderful to see our school grounds beginning to be used fully after a muddy winter.

It has been great to see so many parents and friends over the past few weeks with parents’ evenings have proving to be a very positive experience.

Dates/ Easter Holiday early finish

Below is an updated list of dates for the coming term and the following school year.

Also please note that school will close for the Easter Break at 3.00 p.m. on

Friday 4th April (Infants close at 2.50 p.m.). We return for the Summer Term on Tuesday 22nd April 2014.

School Ofsted Inspection

You will be aware that we hosted an Ofsted team in school on 19th and 20th March 2014. This was a constructive and positive experience for us and our children were an absolute credit. The way these things work, the report has to go through stages of checking and re drafting on Ofsted’s part before we are allowed to share it with you. Hopefully we can do that before the end of term!

This has been a particularly busy and successful period for us in terms of sports.

Our cross country teams have been very successful in their league cross country races with our boys team winning the overall trophy and our girls team coming 4th – out of a field of 19 schools.

I would like to congratulate all the children who participated so brilliantly in the Sports Hall Athletics County Final.

Year 4 Swimming starts on Wednesday, 23rd April – an early start for 4WH who need to be at school and on the bus for 8.40 a.m.

Start of the School Day & Absences

I would like to remind you that the school day begins at 8.55am and that all children need to be on the school site at that time, but no earlier than 8.45am. Also, if your child is unable to attend school for any reason it important that you ring or email school on the first morning of his/her absence.

Photographer in School

The photographer will be in school on Friday 25th April at 1.30 p.m. to take Class and Team photographs. Please could you ensure your child is in full school uniform and has any PE Kit/Team Kit with them?

Parking outside school

Please do not park on the zig zag lines outside school as this is dangerous for the children as they leave school and makes the job of our crossing patrol very difficult indeed.

Also the Old School park is a ‘No Go’ area at all times. I am a little disturbed by the way that Parish Council staff have been spoken to by a small minority who park there recently and would request that we treat our ‘neighbours’ with respect.

Our Year 6 children are about to embark on one of the more arduous periods of their life with us as they look toward their SATs – Monday 12th May 2014 – Friday 16th May 2014. It is always vital that the children are well rested and in school in good time, but essential that this is the case during these assessments. During this time all other year groups will also be being thoroughly assessed. We are only too happy to discuss our assessment methods with you and very keen to ensure that they are used to plan the next steps in the children are learning.

Strategic Plans

We are currently beginning the process of reviewing our School Strategic Plan for the next year.

We are always interested in your input into the school’s direction and focus. We really appreciate the thorough feedback that we received as part of the Ofsted inspection questionnaire that many of you completed. But if you didn’t reply – tell us what you think now. What do you think should be the focus for the direction of our school?

Opportunities to get involved in school life

The role of parents in school life is always growing. The PTA is a vital part of everyday life for us and we have developed some very positive new ways for you to contribute to what we offer in school. Also if you have an interest that could be developed through school, let us know. We would welcome your interest and expertise.

Kingswood Balance

Can I please remind parents of Year Six pupils that the balance for Kingswood is now due?

I wish you all a very happy Easter and hope that you manage to spend some time in the sunshine with those you love.
