W/C 18th May 2020

Year 4 Weekly Update              Week commencing 18th May 2020

Please find below the suggested timetable of activities to provide some structure over the next week if you wish to follow it.  Please be aware that lots of these resources are on our school website. Please choose subjects you enjoy doing but try to also do subjects you may find more of a challenge too; you can share your sense of achievement with us! You do not have to cover all of these tasks and you don’t need to complete each task as if it is one lesson – take them as far as you would like to on one day, then you can come back and continue with them the next day.

As always, please use our email address Year4@Nettleham-Junior.Lincs.sch.uk to keep in contact with us. (Take a look at our website gallery to see a selection of the work)

English / Topic

Good morning sailors,

For those of you who have been busy researching, here are

some answers to last week’s questions:

Answers and research questions

New research question

  1. There was something other than spices beginning with  ‘s’ that traders heading east to China wanted to bring back to Europe. What was it?

Google: What did European traders want from China?

  1. Find a picture of Henry the Navigator – can you find anything about him?

Google: Henry the Navigator facts

  1. Three things that early explorers wanted ... G, G and G. What do these three ‘Gs’ stand for?

Google: 3 Gs  explorers

  1. What does the ‘monster’ in the picture remind you of?

Why do you think sailors didn’t recognise this creature?

  1. Some of you have made a great list of food and drink to take with you on the voyage.

The problem is that you have no fridge! Look at your list. Is this a problem? What could you take instead of foods that will rot?

Google: foods that sailors ate?

  1. Draw some pictures of sea-monsters. Try a Google image search: ‘Sea monsters on maps’. Some of them are amazing. Some you might recognise as real creatures …

  1. Design your own ‘Ultimate Sea-Monster’

Make a detailed picture of your ultimate sea monster in pencil or colour. You could even make a 3D model if you want to. We’d love to see some pictures of your work.

All of these questions are available on this sheet if you want to print them off.
