Balancing equations:

Make both sides equal:

There are lots of possible answers and you can make them easier or harder. You must have several parts to your answer. You can’t just write 6 x 4 = 24!

Example: 6 x4 = 100 – 76

                 6 x 4 = (47 x 2) -70

                 6 x 4 =  48 ÷ 2

  1. 6 x 6 =
  2. 100 ÷ 4 =
  3. 84 + 66 =
  4. 1000 – 99 =
  5. 27 x 5 =
  6. (6 + 7) x2 =

You can give more than one answer for each if you want. Use all 4 operations ( +,-, x, ÷).

Make up 2 or more of your own.

Multiplying 3 numbers

You will have done some examples in the arithmetic papers (there is also an explanation on the film clip).

Pick 3 numbers under 10. Multiply them together. Then multiply the same numbers together in a different order. Write the answers to both.

Example

7 x 3 x 2 =

  • 7 x 3 = 21 then x 2 = 42
  • 3 x 2 =6 then 6 x 7 = 42

Make yourself 10 questions using sets of 3 numbers. Multiply them together in 2 different ways.

Mrs Verdon has created another video for you to watch and re-watch to help you with these activities

You can find it here on YouTube https://youtu.be/NdnI2prapgY

Parents, be aware the answers are here too, so remove if printing. These can as easily be done on paper in front of a screen.

Y4 Arithmetic Paper 1 - have a go at these and complete as much as you can. Watch the video to help and THIS IS NOT A TEST… treat it as practising your skills.

The Olympics were due to be held in Toyko this year but have had to be postponed due to Covid 19.

We would like you to visit the following website.

https://www.olympic.org/summer-games

Can you tell us what the symbol of the Olympics, 5 rings, represents?

Look at where the Summer Olympics have been held. Using the world map worksheet, can you identify where each city is that has hosted the Olympics from 1896 onwards. Which continent has hosted the Olympics the most?

The Olympic torch plays a big part in the Olympic ceremony. It is always lit at Olympia in Greece and travels to the current hosting city. It links the ancient games with the modern games.

Can you create your own design for the Olympic torch? You can draw or make your own version and then email your work in to us.

If you don’t have access to a computer or printer, feel free to contact school as we can have a pack printed off and ready for you to collect at the start of the week. Our website has all of the worksheets you will need. You do not need to print them all off, just choose the sheets you will need or work from the screen and use good old pencil and paper or record things electronically.
